Global security addresses complex challenges including terrorism, nuclear proliferation, and climate change. Keeping the world safe is a daunting task and demands the collaborative efforts of governments, international organizations, and the private sector. Whether your passion lies in intelligence and national security, law enforcement or corporate security, a CCJ program with a concentration in Global Security will provide you with the skills to tackle a variety of cross-national threats.
Global Security
The field of Global security evolved from the needs that modern life and globalization have placed upon states. It is an approach that focuses on the needs that exceed the capacity of any one state to meet, and therefore must be addressed through cooperation amongst nations. This is different from international security, which primarily addresses traditional military threats and interstate conflicts.
Changing global security trends
Threats and concerns that were once considered local have now grown to threaten international stability. As a result, the work of security professionals has expanded beyond borders and conflict to include human rights and environmental issues.
Shifting Geopolitical Dynamics
As new global powers emerge, the nature of security risks and opportunities will evolve. The United States will need to foster security partnerships, rely on normative pressures from institutions, and adjust the form of its military in order to address shifting competition. It will also need to find common ground with China, reversing feelings of alienation and bullying that have influenced the country to ignore other nations’ security concerns.
